New Blog Post on NLnet Funding for Nimble Auto-Documentation

NLnet Foundation is funding new work on the auto-documentation system for Nimble that was prototyped at the 2023 Hackathon in Hamburg. One of the goals of the project is to make sure that the framework can be applied to other open hardware projects in addition to Nimble. I put together a blog post about the project and thought the Open Toolchain community might want to take a look.

I think the funded continuation of this project is a great thing for Open Toolchain to point to when asked about the mission and impact of the Foundation.

Thanks @jmwright for the great write-up, and thanks to Open Toolchain Foundation for bringing us all together at the hackathon to spark these ideas! More project updates to follow.

the latest Blog Post has also many insights, feel free to share the current status of the nimble and related projects - as we are about to kick-start some new communication soon, would like to highlight the outcomes of the past years since 2023 in a new blogpost

@ericnitschke wrote a nice companion blog post to my wrap-up post, and that can be found on the Wakoma blog.

Other than some ongoing maintenance, I do not think work is being done on the project currently. The members of the team have stayed in contact though, and are always looking for opportunities to push the project forward.

I also have a customised Nimble rack on my desk and have continued to create CAD models for it to fit my uses. The web-based customiser is very usable and is my starting point for any customisations.

great, thx for the quick reference update and really good read. + it is great to see what was enabled through the OTFN Hackathon and makes me wonder weither we should revive that kind of activity.

I’ve always felt that the OTFN Hackathon had a very large impact. It connected many people who still communicate and collaborate today, and was the reason this NLNet project happened. The idea to generate documentation and CAD that stayed automatically in sync came out of that Hackathon, and I believe it was @drayde who suggested that topic for our team. That grew into the web-based builder the Nimble project has today, which shares a lot of the DNA of that Hackathon prototype.
